The Maidstone is one of the best known antique brands. Maidstones were originally imported for a schools music project and there are still plenty of them around. They are known for producing a good tone for the price.
This one has been newly set up by a Newark violin making school graduate and is perfectly sound and ready to play (except that it needs a chinrest, but I will supply one of those!). It has a golden brown varnish and a flamed back. The label has all but disappeared, but there is enough of it left to identify it as a Maidstone if you know what the Maidstone labels look like. It is fitted with D'addario Ascente strings and a Glasser tailpiece. There was a long open seam in the front (the middle seam) but this has been glued and is stable. There is no further work that needs to be done and this instrument carries my standard one year guarantee. Yes it will have a chin rest!
The tone is quite powerful for a 3/4 size and someone looking for a louder violin would be well advised to consider this one.
